Lower Saxony Regional Football League (1979 to 1994)
The Lower Saxony state league was the second highest division in Lower Saxony men's football between 1979 and 1994 . It was located at the fifth highest level in the German league system.
Story and mode
In 1979 the Lower Saxony Football Association carried out a comprehensive league reform. The country's highest division, previously called the Landesliga , has been renamed the Association League . The previous four-track association league as the second highest division in the country was dissolved and replaced by a two-track national league.
The national league consisted of two seasons with 16 teams each. The division was initially strictly based on district affiliation. Teams from the Weser / Ems and Hanover districts played in the West Regional League and teams from the Lüneburg and Braunschweig districts in the East Regional League. This strict division was later lifted. For example, Prussia played Hameln and VfV Hildesheim in both the western and eastern seasons. The two season winners rose to the association league. It happened six times that the runners-up found a third promoted player in a decider. As a rule, the two last-placed teams of both seasons were relegated to the respective regional league .
With the league reform of 1994, the two-track national league was abolished. With the exception of the two bottom of the table, the teams qualified for the new two-track Lower Saxony League . The previous district upper leagues were renamed state leagues and now formed the second highest division in Lower Saxony.

Playoffs for the third promotion place
The runners-up found the third promoted player in the association league six times in a play-off in a neutral place. The winners are written in bold . The first playoff was meaningless in retrospect, as a Lower Saxony team was relegated from the Oberliga Nord and only one rose to the Oberliga Nord.
