history

Established until 1930

TuS Lingen was founded on April 10, 1910 as Lingener Sportverein 1910 (LSV). Since at that time football was frowned upon by many older people, the club only had 13 almost exclusively young members on the day it was founded. The first training was carried out on the Kotten meadow in Schepsdorf . The first game soon followed. The 2nd team of FC Umicitia , which was also based in Lingen at the time , beat LSV 2-1. After this defeat followed in the same year the encounters against Vorwärts Nordhorn and Hellas Rheine , which could each be won 4-1.

After membership only rose to 35 by 1913 and then stagnated, the LSV began offering athletics as well as football . As a result, the number of members could actually be increased steadily. Both footballers and track and field athletes performed very well in the 1920s. While the athletes were able to achieve success at national sports festivals, the footballers rose to the Gauliga. The “Wilhelmshöhe” sports field also became the LSV's new venue after the First World War .

1930 to 1952 - mergers and new foundations

In the early 1930s, the LSV and the gymnastics club Gut Heil merged to form TuS Lingen 1882/1910 . In addition to gymnastics , handball was also adopted as a sport. In 1935 the football department celebrated its 25th anniversary with the population. In 1938 the TuS Lingen, the MTV Lingen , the Lingen tennis club and the Lingen rowing society had to merge to form the Lingener Sportgemeinschaft in 1858 due to the usual practice under National Socialism . After the end of the Second World War , the club was re-established in 1946, the club name was changed back to TuS Lingen and the game was started at the district level. Just one year later, they were promoted to the district class, in which they played in the following years.

1953 to 1969 - From the amateur league to the district class

Successful years for TuS soon began. After the promotion to the amateur league 2 was successful in 1954 , two years later there was promotion to the then second-highest division, the Lower Saxony- West amateur league . In addition to the men's team, the A youth team was also able to achieve great success in 1955. In the prelude to the game Hannover 96 - Fortuna Düsseldorf, the TuS juniors beat VfB Peine's representation in front of 17,000 spectators 2: 1 and thus won the Lower Saxony A youth cup.

In 1956, however, the TuS had to relegate from the amateur league to the amateur league. TuS played in this league for the next five years. In 1964, the TuS also rose from the amateur league. Burdened by further descents, the TuS found itself in the district class in 1969.

1970 to 1981 - four championships in a row

After the TuS had recovered from the relegations, a successful period began again in the 1970s. 1971 succeeded the direct promotion to the district league and a year later the championship was won, which meant the simultaneous promotion to the Association League West . There the team was able to win the championship in the first year. In the promotion round, the promotion could not be realized. In 1974 the fourth championship in a row was won. Also the promotion to the national league was accomplished in contrast to the previous season. In the next few years TuS Lingen played in the regional league. In 1976 the TuS took part in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord, but missed promotion. The regional league thus remained the sporting home for the Lingeners.

1982 to 1991 - constant class change and participation in the DFB Cup

In 1980 the promotion round to the league was reached again. But this time, too, the ascent was not made. Soon there was another failure, so that in 1982 the Lingen relegated to the Landesliga West . Already in the following year 1983 another big victory could be booked, because the TuS Lower Saxony Cup winner was. As the Lower Saxony Cup winner, TuS was allowed to take part in the DFB Cup . But already in the first main round he was defeated by the then third division SpVgg Fürth with 1: 2 after extra time. In 1984, in turn, TuS made it to the now association league . In the following years there was repeated promotion and relegation between the association and regional leagues.

1992 to 2016 - Lower Saxony champion, withdrawal and dissolution

In 1990 he was once again promoted to the association league. In 1992 TuS Lingen was "Lower Saxony Champion" and was able to participate again in the promotion to the league. The promotion round was successfully contested, so that TuS Lingen was allowed to play in the Oberliga Nord in the 1992/93 season. But the league guest game lasted only a year. Due to many second division relegated from the north, the TuS had to return to the association league. After another league reform, Lingen qualified in 1994 for the newly founded Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen , which was renamed Oberliga Nord in 2004.

After the dissolution of the Oberliga Nord, Lingen played in the Oberliga Niedersachsen from 2008 . TuS Lingen played in this class until 2009. After 15 years of uninterrupted membership in the table, you had to join the Weser / Ems regional league as the second to last . The descent went even further. In the 2009/10 season they did not manage to stay in the district league and started in the district league. In 2014 he was promoted to the state league, which was followed by the march through to the top division in the following season.

After qualifying for the 2016/17 season, the club had to contend with liabilities of 120,000 euros . As a consequence, the club withdrew its team from the game and starts in the 2016/17 season in the 2nd district class Emsland Süd . In August 2016, insolvency proceedings were opened against the association, which in November of the same year announced the dissolution at the end of the year. TuS played its last league game on June 2, 2017, away from SuS Darme II and was clearly defeated 1: 5.

Successor club RB Lingen

A successor club should initially be founded as FC Lingen . Ultimately, however, the new club was founded on November 21, 2016 under the name of RasenBallsport (RB) Lingen . The Bundesliga club RB Leipzig served as a model for the naming . The proposal came from TuS honorary chairman and main sponsor Heinrich Essmann. The club colors should be red and yellow again. The team has so far not got beyond the 3rd district class.
