Klaus Iwanzik (born September 5, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player who played for Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga . He was used both in defense and in midfield .

Career

Originally from East Prussia , Iwanzik grew up in Wesuwe near Meppen in Emsland . About the SV Wesuwe and the SV Union Meppen he got into the youth of SV Meppen . From there he made the transition to the senior sector. Iwanzik quickly gained a regular place in the 1st team and in 1961 contributed significantly to the promotion to the then highest amateur class. This was followed by an offer from VfL Osnabrück , which Iwanzik accepted. In Osnabrück he became one of the most conspicuous actors in his team. As an attacking midfielder, he played 143 games in the upper and regional leagues for VfL and scored 20 goals.

In 1967 Iwanzik accompanied his teammate Günter Pröpper , whom Fortuna Düsseldorf was courting, to a trial training session in Düsseldorf. In a training game, Iwanzik convinced the Fortuna officials so that he got a contract. Iwanzik also quickly fought for a regular place in Düsseldorf and was part of the team built by Heinz Lucas , which rose to the Bundesliga in 1971 . After just one Bundesliga season, in which he played 21 games for Fortuna and scored one goal, Iwanzik ended his professional career.

Iwanzik went back to Emsland and took over as a player-coach at TuS Lingen until 1980 , which he led up to the amateur league . He then held the same position at Union Meppen before ending his playing and coaching career in 1983.

Private

After his professional career, Iwanzik returned to his learned profession as a banker and was head of investment advice at Sparkasse Emsland for many years.

In 2003 he came back to TuS Lingen and took over the post of sporting director for two years, which he temporarily held again in the 2008/2009 season due to a vacancy.
