The SV Union Meppen (full name: Sportverein Union Meppen 1947 eV ) is a sports club from the Esterfeld district of Meppen . The first women's soccer team plays in the fourth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen-West and qualified three times for the women's DFB Cup .

history

The club was founded in 1947 as a pure football club. This was later followed by departments for tennis , gymnastics , volleyball , table tennis , athletics and rehabilitation sports . Today the club is a popular sports club. With around 1,300 members, the SV is owned. Union Meppen is currently one of the sports clubs in the Emsland with the largest number of members .

Soccer

The women's team has been playing in the fourth-class Lower Saxony West League since its promotion in 2005 , which has been called Oberliga Niedersachsen-West since 2008. There the Meppen women reached the runner-up in 2011 behind SF Wüsting-Altmoorhausen . Three years later Union missed the relay championship with a goal difference two goals worse than SV Heidekraut Andervenne . With a 2-1 victory over SV Ahlerstedt / Ottendorf , the team won the Lower Saxony Cup in 2014 and qualified for the DFB Cup.

There the Union women lost in the first round against 1. FC Lübars from Berlin with 0: 5. In 2015, the Meppenerinnen defended the Lower Saxony Cup after a 2-0 final victory over VfL Jesteburg . A year later, the Meppen women achieved their greatest success. With a 5-1 win over ATSV Scharmbeckstotel , the team won the Lower Saxony Cup for the third time in a row. In addition, the team became Lower Saxony champions with a 3-2 victory over VfL Jesteburg and thus achieved promotion to the regional league in terms of sport. Since the club did not have the required second women's team, the Meppen women were not allowed to advance.

The men of SV Union Meppen belonged to the then third-class amateur league 2 and 8 between 1955 and 1958 . After several decades at the district level, he was promoted to the district league in 2012, before relegation to the district league Emsland followed two years later.

volleyball

The E-youth of SV Union Meppen became German champions in Wiesbaden in 1994 . With Jana Franziska Poll , the club produced a German national player.

athletics

Carsten Schlangen was runner-up in the 1500-meter run at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in 2010 .
