Carsten Schlangen (born December 31, 1980 in Meppen ) is a former German middle-distance runner . He celebrated his greatest successes over 1500 meters , but also competed in the 800 and 3000 meters on several occasions. He was Vice European Champion in 2010.

Life

Up to 2005, Schlangen started for SV Union Meppen . Then he switched to Roland Wolff's training group at LG North Berlin .

Since 2006, Schlangen has celebrated numerous national championships over 1500 meters. Snakes' greatest success at international level came when he finished second behind the Spaniard Arturo Casado at the European Championships in Barcelona in July 2010 . In 2011 he finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships . In addition, Schlangen participated in the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics. Here he reached the semi-finals. With his best time of 3: 33.64 min, recorded in Bottrop on July 6, 2012, Schlangen is in seventh place in the all-time German best list (as of December 2014). At the end of the 2014 season, he ended his competitive sports career.

In the spring of 2011, Schlangen completed his architecture studies at the TU Berlin . He works as a freelance architect in Berlin.
