Arturo Casado (born January 26, 1983 in Madrid ) is a Spanish athlete who was European champion in the 1500 meter run in 2010 .
Career
In 2001 Casado won bronze over 1500 meters at the Junior European Championships, in 2002 he was sixth at the Junior World Championships. In 2005 he finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships, won the U23 European Championships and the Mediterranean Games and reached the World Cup finals in Helsinki . In 3: 39.45 min he finished fifth, around one and a half seconds behind the world champion. The following year he finished fourth at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg, about a second behind his compatriot Juan Carlos Higuero .
At the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2007 , the Spanish runners over 1500 meters achieved a triple victory. Higuero won ahead of Diego Gallardo and Casado. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka , all three Spaniards were again in the final. Casado finished seventh and best Spaniard after 3: 35.62 minutes. The 2008 World Indoor Championships took place in Spain. In Valencia the Ethiopian Deresse Mekonnen won ahead of the Kenyan Daniel Kipchirchir Komen , followed by Higuero and Casado sprinting for third place. At the finish, Higuero had a lead of six hundredths of a second over Casado. After the race, to the cheers of the Spanish spectators, it was announced that Komen had won in front of Higuero and Casado and that Mekonnen had been disqualified for stepping on the interior border. The disqualification was withdrawn, Komen received silver and Higuero bronze, Casado took fourth place. At the Olympic Games in Beijing Casado was eliminated in the semifinals.
At the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona , Casado, Reyes Estévez and Manuel Olmedo were three Spaniards in the final. The race, which was rather restrained by the intermediate times, was decided in the final sprint, Casado won in 3: 42.74 minutes ahead of Carsten Schlangen and Manuel Olmedo, Estevez took fourth place.
Arturo Casado has a competition weight of 71 kg with a height of 1.87 m. In 2005 and 2008 he was the Spanish champion over 1500 meters.
