Reyes Estévez ( Reyes Estévez López ; born August 2, 1976 in Cornellà de Llobregat ) is a Spanish middle-distance runner .

Reyes Estévez was Junior European Champion in the 1500 meter run in 1993 and 1995 . In 1997 he won the U23 European Championships.

After Estévez was eliminated in the semi-finals at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he was able to win his first adult medal in 1997 when he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Athens behind Hicham El Guerrouj from Morocco and his compatriot Fermín Cacho .

In 1998 Estévez won the European Championships in Budapest in front of the Portuguese Rui Silva . The 1994 European champion, Cacho, won bronze.

In 1999 at the World Championships in Seville , Estévez ran his fastest time when he again won bronze in 3: 30.57 minutes, this time behind El Guerrouj and the Kenyan Noah Ngeny .

The 2000 season largely missed Estévez, but he was back at the 2001 World Indoor Championships in Lisbon , winning silver behind Rui Silva, but ahead of Noah Ngeny. At the World Championships in Edmonton , Estévez finished fifth.

In 2002 Estévez was second at the European Championships in Munich behind the Frenchman Mehdi Baala and ahead of Rui Silva.

After a sixth place at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis and a seventh place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he was able to win two more medals at the 2005 European Indoor Championships in Madrid when he finished third in the 1500 and 3000 meters respectively .

Reyes Estévez is 1.87 m tall and has a competition weight of 70 kg.
