geography
Wesuwe is located in the west of Lower Saxony on the old left-hand Semsian trade route " Friesische Strasse " (today Landesstrasse 48) and the A 31 motorway (junction 20: Wesuwe).

history
The history of the place goes back to about 800 AD. In the course of its history Wesuwe has always been structured exclusively in agriculture , there were small shops that covered everyday needs, and there is a primary school in the village. Since the statutory community reform in Lower Saxony on March 1, 1974, Wesuwe has belonged to the unified community of the city of Haren (Ems) .
In 1938 Emslandlager VIII was founded in Wesuwe as one of the 15 Emslandlager . It acted as a prison camp for prison inmates. After the beginning of the Second World War , Wehrkreiskommando VI Westfalen ( Münster ) took over the facility as a prisoner of war camp . It initially functioned as a branch camp of Stalag VI B Neu Versen , as a team main camp Stalag VI B / Z and as an officer camp Oflag 6 / Z. In May 1942 it was incorporated into the Stalag VI C Bathorn .
The cemetery is still located near the former camp today. 98 Soviet soldiers rest in solitary graves and 2000 to 4000 prisoners of war in three mass graves.
