Vorwärts Nordhorn (officially: Sportverein Vorwärts Nordhorn 1919 eV ) is a sports club from Nordhorn in the county of Bentheim . The first women's handball team took part in the DHB Cup once, while the first men's soccer team played in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony for five years.

history

Club building

The association was founded in 1919. After the end of the Second World War , Vorwärts merged with Sparta Nordhorn , VfL Nordhorn and TV Nordhorn into SV Nordhorn , which later became Eintracht Nordhorn . A short time later, Vorwärts Nordhorn was re-established. In addition to handball and football, the club also offers archery , boules , fencing , headis , cycling , wheelchair basketball , tennis , table tennis and volleyball .

Handball

The handball players from Vorwärts Nordhorn qualified in 2011 as a fifth division for the DHB Cup. There the team retired in the first round with 20:50 against TSV Travemünde . In the 2014/15 season, the Nordhorns competed in the regional league and at the end of the season rose to second place in the fourth-class Oberliga Nordsee.

The footballers from Vorwärts rose in 1951 for the first time in the then third-class amateur league Oldenburg , but had to relegate again after a year. After several years in the district class, he was promoted to the district league in 1968. Four years later the Nordhorns descended again and managed to rise again in 1974. Three years later Vorwärts was runner-up behind VfL Rüterbrock, but in 1979 missed qualification for the newly created Weser / Ems regional league .

In the 1990s they finally got there and in 1997 the Nordhorns were runner-up behind the amateurs of SV Meppen . After a 3-1 win in the decider against SSG Halvestorf / Herkendorf , the team rose to the Lower Saxony League West , the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony at the time. With fifth place in the 1997/98 promotion season, the Nordhorns reached their sporting zenith. Four years later, he was relegated from the Lower Saxony League. In 2009, Vorwärts were runner-up behind VfL Oythe , but lost the play-off for promotion to the Lower Saxony Oberliga against SV Ramlingen / Ehlershausen just 3: 4.

A year later, the Nordhorn relegated to the district league and only made it back to the regional league in 2015. For the 2017/18 season, SV Vorwärts is setting up a football youth performance center. In 2019 Vorwärts rose again to the district league.
