The Nordhorner SV Sparta 09 is a football club from the Lower Saxon city of Nordhorn , district town of the county of Bentheim . When other sports were included in the club life in addition to football, the expanded program was also identified in the name and in January 1911 the club was given the name NSS (Nordhorner Sportverein Sparta), which is still valid today. The club colors are red-white-green.

history

In 100 years of the club's history, the following sports have been played in the club: gymnastics, swimming, water polo, athletics, singing, shooting, handball, boxing, fistball, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and boules. With regard to popular sports, the club did absolute pioneering work in the 1920s and 1930s in the Lower Saxony border area with the Netherlands and was by far the largest club in the region and one of the leading clubs in Osnabrück and Münsterland.

In 1929 one rose to the newly created special class Westphalia, which at that time represented the highest German division. They stayed there until 1932 and played against clubs such as VfL Osnabrück , Preußen Münster , Borussia Rheine, Spielvereinigung Herten or Teutonia Lippstadt . Arminia Bielefeld was even defeated 8-2 in the first game in this league.

In 1938 Sparta became champions of the Osnabrück district, but failed in the promotion games to the Lower Saxony Gauliga , at that time also the highest German league, against the military team of the Bückeburg hunters .

The affiliation to the amateur league Lower Saxony -West, at the time the second highest German league, in the period from 1952 to 1958 and from 1960 to 1964 was the second great era of the Sparta footballers. The opponents were for example VfB Oldenburg , Arminia Hannover , Kickers Emden or SV Meppen . During this time there were also high-class local derbies against neighbor Eintracht Nordhorn , which regularly attracted 5,000 to 8,000 spectators to the sports fields. After relegation in 1964, the club gradually said goodbye to the higher-class amateur football.

The other branches also celebrated national successes. The 1950s, in particular, when the table tennis team served in the second highest German league and the track and field athletes collected numerous district and state championship titles, were the club's heyday.

Since 1987, when the tennis department (today: TV Sparta 87 ) and the handball department (today: HSG Nordhorn ) separated from the main club and started their own business, Sparta Nordhorn has been a pure football club that currently (as of June 2014) has around 800 members. The first football team was promoted to the Bentheim district league in 2013 and has been at home on Jahnplatz in Nordhorn since 1960.
