Achinsk ( Russian Ачинск ) is a Russian city in the southwest of the Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia with 109,155 inhabitants (14 October 2010).
geography
Achinsk is located 163 km west of the provincial capital Krasnoyarsk on the right bank of the strongly meandering Chulym . The northern and western surroundings of the city are mostly lake-rich taiga in a hilly landscape. The closest city is Nasarowo ; it is located 30 km south of Achinsk.
history
The city was founded by Cossacks in 1683 as a strategically important settlement at the crossing over the Tschulym and received city rights in 1782. With the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the connection of the city (km 3914) in 1895, Achinsk quickly became more important, especially for trade with China. The Achinsk district became the first destination of Stalinist peasant deportations in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in 1930.

economy
The largest industrial enterprises in Achinsk are the alumina -Kombinat Atschinski Glinosjomny Kombinat and a cement plant, both to the Russian conglomerate Basic Element belong. There is also a large oil refinery in the city as well as several smaller factories.
traffic
Achinsk is on the M 53 trunk road ( Novosibirsk - Irkutsk ), from which the secondary roads to the Republic of Khakassia and to Biriljussy branch off. The Trans-Siberian Railway crosses the Chulym north of Achinsk. Two branch lines branch off in the city; one leads to Lessosibirsk on the Yenisei and was built to open up the region north of Achinsk for the timber industry. The other line runs south to Abakan in Khakassia. Achinsk is thus the most important rail hub in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The city has a port and there is also an airport to the east of Achinsk.
The city has had a tram network since April 15, 1967, which today includes three lines.
