history
The place was known as the village called Ilanskaya (Иланская) since 1645 . In the 1730s, a road was laid near Ilanskaja, which in the following decades led to an increase in the population of the neighboring towns. Most of the settlers were exiles from European parts of Russia; at the end of the 18th century they made up a large part of the village's population.
In 1894 the Trans-Siberian Railway was moved past Ilanskaya. A train station and a railway depot were built in the village. In 1939, Ilanskaya, now an important railway settlement, was given the status of a town under its current name.
