history

A village called Bogotol was founded in 1762 (named after the river, from the tribal name of the Keten bogotu who settled in the area and the Ketian word ul for river ). From 1893 the Trans-Siberian Railway passed a few kilometers north and the Bogotol station opened in 1898. The rapidly growing station settlement soon merged with the old village and in 1911 received city rights as part of the Mariinsk district of the Tomsk governorate . In 1925, Bogotol became the administrative center of the Rajons in what was then the Achinsk region and later in the Krasnoyarsk region.
