Nasarowo ( Russian Назарово ) is a city in the Krasnoyarsk region ( Russia ) with 52,817 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the Nasarower Basin , surrounded by the foothills of the Arga ridge , about 240 km west of the regional capital Krasnoyarsk , on the left bank of the Chulym , a right tributary of the Ob .

The city of Nasarowo is administratively directly subordinate to the region and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

Nasarowo is on a railway line that connects Achinsk on the Trans-Siberian Railway with Abakan on the South Siberian Railway . Construction of the line began as early as the First World War , but was not completed until 1925.

history

The place was founded in 1700 by the resettler Nasari Patjukow near the confluence of the Adadymka in the Tschulym.

In 1786 the village was mentioned as Nazarowski , named after the founder and inhabited by 15 families. The place also served as a place of exile , including for the Decembrist Anton Arbusow , who died here.

In 1888, lignite deposits were discovered in the area . In 1924 the place became the administrative center of Rajon.

After 1945, lignite mining began on a large scale with the opening of a first open-cast mine in 1947–1953. The construction of a thermal power plant followed. In 1946 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and on December 25, 1961 city rights.

economy

In addition to coal mining and the energy industry ( Nazarowskaya GRES thermal power plant ) there are mechanical engineering, construction (steel and concrete structures, insulation material) and furniture industries in the city.
