Soccer

history

VfB Verdenia rose to the second highest division in 1934 and stayed there for two years. In 1950 the TSV moved from the Bremen Football Association to Lower Saxony and immediately became champions of the Amateur League 6 . This was associated with promotion to the Lower Saxony- West amateur league, which was a size too big for the team. With 113 goals conceded, the immediate relegation followed. With ten points ahead of Delmenhorster BV , the Verdener were again champions of the amateur league in 1953 and prevailed in the promotion round. But this time, too, the immediate relegation followed. In 1956 and 1957, the TSV won other championships in the amateur league, but failed both times in the promotion round. Instead, the TSV had to relegate from the amateur league in 1960, but returned straight away. Four years later, the team missed the newly created Verbandsliga Nord and slipped down into the district class.

In 1971 the TSV reached the association league and was in the final of the Lower Saxony Cup for the first time in 1976 , which was lost 1: 3 against TuS Hessisch Oldendorf . Two years later, the team unfortunately had to relegate. Although TSV won the decider against SV Ahlerstedt / Ottendorf 1-0, this game became meaningless because of the relegation of SV Meppen from the Oberliga Nord . In 1982 the horse dealer Friedrich Ernst took over the management of the club. Three years later, after a 2-0 win in the playoff against Rot-Weiß Damme, they were promoted to the Lower Saxony Association League . In 1987 and 1988, TSV won the Lower Saxony Cup. As a result, Verden took part in the DFB Cup twice. In 1987/88 the team lost the first round match against Werder Bremen 4-0, a year later they lost 2-1 to Rot-Weiss Essen .

In 1991, the TSV missed the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord only because of the poorer goal difference against blue-white wages . A year later, the worse goal difference against Prussia Hameln caused relegation from the association league. After the descent, the TSV became the elevator team . Relegated to the district league in 1997, two consecutive promotions brought the club back to the Lower Saxony League East . Here the TSV held for two years and was then passed through to the district league. In 2004 the association had to file for bankruptcy and was dissolved.

Successor club FC Verden 04

The successor club FC Verden 04 was promoted to the district league Lüneburg 3 in 2008 and four years later made the jump to the regional league Lüneburg . After a weak second half of the season, however, they were relegated to the district league a year later. In 2015 he was promoted to the national league again.

Handball

The first men's handball team rose in 1977 to the then second-rate Regionalliga Nord and in 1981 was one of the founding members of the 2nd Bundesliga North. The team was able to achieve the greatest success in the 1982/83 season , when TSV finished fifth. Otherwise, the Verden played against relegation, which had to be accepted in 1987 . Three years later, the team was also relegated from the Regionalliga Nord. Although the team returned to the regional league before the club withdrew the team from the league in 1996.
