The VfR Dostluk Osterode is a football club from Osterode am Harz . The 1st men's team has been playing in the Braunschweig 4th district league since 2019. The club colors are red and white.

history

The VfR Osterode is one of the most successful amateur clubs in the Braunschweig area and can look back on a lot of history. In 1949 they reached the second-rate amateur league East and played there until 1952, before 1951/52 the gang had to be started in the third division. There they spent 11 years in the amateur league 5 until it went one floor down in 1963. It was not until 1971, in the Verbandsliga Süd , that the VfR made regional headlines again. In 1974 this became the fifth division.

In the 1980/81 season, the VfR managed to return to League 4. Until 1992 they played 12 years without interruption in the Association League . Highlights of this time were the regular participation in the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord in 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990. The promotion was missed in all four participations. After the last participation in 1990, in which the Holstein high-flyer Eutin 08 had to be defeated, in the 1990/1991 season the consistently good attendance figures in the years before declined, so that only a few hundred lost their way to VfR games in the Jahnstadion. The season ended on a disappointing 6th place, before all dreams of the amateur league burst in the 1991/92 season and you had to relegate to the Landesliga Ost .

From 1992 to 2001 they played fifth class. After relegation to the Braunschweig regional league , VfR Osterode hired Peter Grüneberg as a new coach. After a placement in the upper half of the table was achieved in the 2001/02 season, they rose in the 2003/04 season as 12th in the district league, as there were three more relegated than in the previous year. Rebuilding began in the district league. But the 2004/05 season started extremely unfortunate, because Thomas Hellmich canceled at short notice as a trainer and the new technical director Wolfgang Schmidt also took over the coaching position that he had already held from 1995 to 1998. In 2004/2005 they slid just past relegation to the district class and at the end of the season had just 3 points ahead of a relegation place. Between 2007 and 2010 the VfR played again in the sixth class regional league Braunschweig . The 1st men's team has played in the 2nd district class A of the NFV district Göttingen-Osterode since relegation in 2015.

In 2019, VfR Osterode 08 and the club FC Dostluk Spor Osterode eV, also based in Osterode am Harz, merged in 1987 to form the new club VfR Dostluk Osterode .
