The Helmstedter SV (full name Helmstedter Sportverein 1913 eV , short Helmstedter SV ) is a sports club in the district town of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony . It is the largest sports club in the city and in the Helmstedt district . There are 20 departments organized there. The home ground is the Bötschenberg Stadium and is located on the federal motorway 2 .
history
On June 16, 1913, FC Hohenzollern was founded and on August 24, 1921, through a merger with the sports and games department of the Helmstedt gymnastics club, it became VfL Helmstedt. In 1925 the club rose to the top football league and stayed there for three years. On December 13, 1945, the club was renamed the Helmstedt sports club. From 1949 to 1952 the club played in what was then the highest amateur league, the newly founded amateur league.

The footballers of the first men's team won the championship of the Braunschweig 1 district league on June 6, 2010 with a 5-1 win against Neudorf-Platendorf. Thus, the team played in the 2010/11 season in the Braunschweig regional league , from which, however, the bottom of the table had to be relegated again. Two relegations in a row brought the team from Helmstedt to the 1st district class in 2015, before being promoted to the district league two years later.
