The FC Schöningen 08 was a sports club from Schöningen in district Helmstedt . The first soccer team played for 13 years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony.

history

The club was founded on November 15, 1908. In 1936 the club reached the second highest division, the championship of which was reached in 1940. In the promotion round to the Lower Saxony Gauliga , FC came second behind 1. SC Göttingen 05 . A year later, the Schöningen runners-up behind LSV Wolfenbüttel . After the Second World War , he was promoted to the then second-class Braunschweig regional league in 1948 and qualified for the newly created Lower Lower Saxony amateur league a year later . After rank twelve in the 1949/50 season, relegation followed a year later. On the last day of the match, FC did not make it past 0-0 at home against direct rivals FC Grone and were relegated.

In the amateur league 4 it was only enough to place in the midfield in the following years. In 1957, the team stayed in the league only through the rise of Rot-Weiß Steterburg . A year later the FC was runner-up. In 1961 it reached the championship, but the team failed in the promotion round to Borussia Hannover . Three years later, the people of Schöningen returned to the Upper House of Lower Saxony under strange circumstances. Although the team had yet to discharge pent-up games said the NFA to TSV Helmstedt to the Master, who then took part in the promotion round.

After Schöninger had completed the catch-up games, FC and Helmstedt were tied. The NFV had to schedule a playoff, which Schöningen won 2-1 in front of 3,000 spectators. Then Schöningen took over Helmstedter Platz in the promotion round. The two Helmstedt victories were credited to the FCS, which made the leap in class after the end of the round. After an eleventh place in the 1964/65 season, relegation was only achieved after a 1-0 win in the decider against Union Salzgitter . In 1967 the descent could no longer be avoided.

A year later, the rise of Teutonia Uelzen prevented the Schöninger from being passed through to the district league. In 1971 they surprisingly returned to the Lower Saxony state league , where the team mostly had to fight relegation. The decline was initiated in 1979, when coach Bogdan Puljewicz and ten Schöningen regular players moved to Helmstedter SV . The FC08 promptly got down from the league now known as the Association of Lower Saxony .

In 1984 he was relegated to the Landesliga Ost , to which the club returned again between 1986 and 1988. The first team currently plays in the Helmstedt district league . With Sven Boy , the club produced a second division player. In 2011 the club merged with SV Hoiersdorf / Twieflingen to form FSV Schöningen .
