The LSV Wolfenbüttel (officially: Air Force Sports Club Wolfenbüttel ) was a sports club from Wolfenbüttel . The soccer team played for three years in the then first-class Gauliga Lower Saxony and South Hanover-Braunschweig .

history

The club was founded in 1924 when members of the MTV Wolfenbüttel who were close to the military founded the club VfL Wolfenbüttel . In 1936 the name was changed to LSV Wolfenbüttel. The club played its home games in the Meesche Stadium . In 1939 the Wolfenbütteler champions of his district class. In the promotion round to the Lower Saxony Gauliga, however, the LSV failed together with the 1. SC Göttingen 05 at SV Linden 07 . Two years later the Wolfenbüttelers were more successful. After another championship in the district class, the team prevailed against Eintracht Hannover and LSV Göttingen without losing points and rose to the top division.

Similar to many other associations related to the Reichswehr , the Wolfenbüttelers benefited from the fact that, unlike the civil associations, they could always compete with the best possible cast. In the 1941/42 promotion season, LSV won three of the four games against Hannover 96 and was ultimately runner-up behind Werder Bremen . For the 1942/43 season, the club moved to the newly created Gauliga Südhannover-Braunschweig. There was a 5-3 win against Hannover 96, but at the end of the season it was only seventh. In the 1943/44 season the LSV finished eighth. Especially away from home, the team conceded many goals and lost at Eintracht Braunschweig with 0:10 and at SVG Göttingen 07 even with 1:12.

For the 1944/45 season , the Gauliga was dissolved and replaced by five district leagues, with the LSV and local rival Germania meeting five Braunschweig clubs. However, it is not known whether there were games. Games came to a standstill in winter. The LSV Wolfenbüttel was later dissolved. It is also not known whether the former members joined the newly founded Wolfenbütteler SV .
