Germania Wolfenbüttel is a sports club from Wolfenbüttel . The first men's soccer team played in the Lower Saxony Gauliga for a year . In addition to soccer, the club also plays badminton and does gymnastics.

history

On May 1, 1910, FC Germania Wolfenbüttel was founded, and on March 1, 1919 it was renamed SV Germania . This merged on July 6, 1923 with the Ballspielverein 1912 Wolfenbüttel to the Ballspielverein Germania . Between 1942 and 1944, the club entered a war syndicate with MTV Wolfenbüttel . After the Second World War , all local clubs were combined in Wolfenbütteler SV , which was founded on December 19, 1945 . On February 13, 1948, former members of Germania founded today's association.

From 1923 Germania played in the first-class Südkreisliga and only managed to stay in the league two years later after relegation. A year later, the team rose after a 2-1 defeat in the playoff against Hildesheim 07 . In the following years, Germania failed twice in the promotion round. In 1934 the team failed in the promotion round to the Lower Saxony Gauliga at SpVgg Hannover 97 and Borussia Harburg . A year later, Germania failed again in the promotion round. It was not until 1937 that the company returned to first class. With one point ahead of SV Linden 07 , the club completed the promotion round. In the Gauliga, the team had to be relegated immediately, as the tied VfB Peine had the better goal quotient . During the season, Germania suffered a 10:10 defeat at Eintracht Braunschweig .

After the Second World War, in 1953 they were promoted to the then third-class Amateur League 4 , where they finished fourth in 1957 and 1958. Relegation followed in 1959 and only in the 1962/63 season did Germania return to the amateur league. In the following years the team played at the district level. In 1993 Germania was about to merge with MTV Wolfenbüttel, but this did not materialize because the gymnasts did not want to take over the name Germania . Sports have been on the up again since the late 2000s. The district championship of 2008 was followed by promotion to the Braunschweig regional league in 2011 , from which Germania was relegated a year later.
