The Gauliga Niedersachsen 1938/39 was the sixth season of the Gauliga Niedersachsen of the German Football Association . The Lower Saxony Gauliga was played with ten teams in a round- robin tournament this season. The Gaume Championship was secured for the first time by VfL Osnabrück due to the better goal quotient that was valid at the time compared to Hannover 96 with the same number of points . Osnabrück qualified for the German soccer championship 1938/39 , in which they reached second place in a group with Hamburger SV , Hindenburg Allenstein and Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin , which was not enough to advance. This season there was only one relegated team, SV Algermissen . SV Arminia Hannover escaped relegation at the Green Table . No referee appeared for the match between Arminia Hannover and ASV Blumenthal . Both clubs played a friendly game, which Blumenthal won 4-0. However, the game was rated with this result, which the Hanoverians protested. A replay was scheduled, against which the Blumenthalers protested. Finally, the Reichsfachamt football decided that the game will not be repeated and that Arminia is exempt from relegation.
