Venues of the Gauliga Niedersachsen 1939/40 (red = group north; blue = group south) |
The Gauliga Niedersachsen 1939/40 was the seventh season of the Gauliga Niedersachsen of the German Football Association . The Lower Saxony Gauliga was divided into two groups of six teams each for the first time this season. The winners of both groups then met in two finals. VfL Osnabrück prevailed in these and was thus Lower Saxony's Gaumeister for the second time. The Osnabrückers thus qualified for the German soccer championship 1939/40 , in which they reached third place in a group with the Dresdner SC , the Eimsbütteler TV and the 1. SV Jena , which was not enough to advance. The outbreak of World War II caused the military sports clubs MSV Jäger 7 Bückeburg and MSV Lüneburg to withdraw from the Gauliga. For them, teams from the district league moved up.
