The Gauliga Niedersachsen 1937/38 was the fifth season of the Gauliga Niedersachsen of the German Football Association . The Lower Saxony Gauliga was played with ten teams in a round- robin tournament this season. The Gaume Championship secured Hannover 96 for the second time . After Hannover and VfL Osnabrück were tied at the end of the season, the better goal quotient used at the time decided the championship for Hannover. The Hanoverians thus qualified for the German soccer championship 1937/38 , in which they reached first place in a group with 1. FC Nürnberg , Alemannia Aachen and FC Hanau 93 and were thus qualified for the semi-finals. There they defeated in the stadium on Ostragehege in Dresden of Hamburger SV with 3: 2 after extra time and thus qualified for the final of the German football championship. After the final against Schalke 04 in the Olympiastadion Berlin ended 3: 3 after extra time, a replay had to take place a week later. In the same place Hannover 96 prevailed this time with 4: 3 after extra time and celebrated the first German soccer championship for the club. It was also the only championship title for a club from the Lower Saxony Gauliga.
