MSV Lüneburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MSV Lüneburg was a sports club from Lüneburg . The first soccer team played for three years in the Gauliga Niedersachsen and Osthannover .

history

The club was founded in 1928 as Lüneburger SV . After the reintroduction of compulsory military service in 1935, the club changed its name to the Lüneburg Military Sports Club . With numerous conscripts stationed on site such as Siegfried Rachuba , the Lüneburgers reached the Lower Saxony Gauliga in 1938 after the team prevailed against FV Woltmershausen and VfB Braunschweig in the promotion round . In the Gauliga, the class could only barely be held before the outbreak of World War II caused the team to withdraw.

In 1942 and 1943, the MSV failed in the promotion round to Eintracht Hannover and SpVgg Hannover 97 . Then the Lüneburgers were included in the newly created Gauliga Osthannover, in which the team was fifth. At Sparta Bremerhaven , the MSV had to admit defeat 0:12. At the end of the war, the MSV was dissolved and the Lüneburger SV was re-established. However, the LSV did not get beyond regional leagues. On March 1, 2008, the football department merged with Lüneburger SK to form FC Hansa Lüneburg , which has been called Lüneburger SK Hansa since June 1, 2011 .

Handball

The handball department of the MSV Lüneburg became champions of the Lower Saxony Gauliga in 1938/39 and thus qualified for the German field handball championship 1938/39 , in which the Lüneburgers were eliminated in the group phase.
