The Bremer Sportverein von 1906 eV (short: Bremer SV) is a sports club from the west of Bremen , which was founded on January 1st, 1906. His first men's soccer team is currently playing in the Bremen League (until 2008: Verbandsliga Bremen), the fifth-highest division . With 13 national championship titles meanwhile, the Bremer SV is the record champion in Bremen. In addition, the cup was won seven times. The Bremer SV became known through original and self-deprecating external presentations, for example with the slogan "Not in the Bundesliga since 1962", which has been used since 2015.

history

After some secondary school students in Bremen had been planning to found the association since 1902, they implemented it on January 1, 1906 and made Willi Wenhold their first chairman. The original name Bremer Ballspiel Verein - Sport - from 1906 was changed in 1920 to Bremer Sportverein from 1906 . In 2015, the Bremer SV merged with the SV Weser 08 Bremen .

First men's team

In the 1920s, the team played in the Westkreisliga / Weser / Jade and took second place there after the first season in 1922. The league was separated in 1923 into the Weser and Jade squadrons , in which Bremer SV first came third and in 1925 with the coach Gyula Feldmann first. After winning the final against Komet Bremen , the team became district champion in 1925, but lost to Kilia Kiel in the subsequent qualification for the final . After the district league championship in 1926 with a 6-1 win in the final against SV Werder Bremen , there was another end. From 1927 the club played in the Weser season and came second that season.

From the 1947/48 season, the Bremer SV played in the Oberliga Nord , one of the newly founded, regionally subdivided leagues; at that time the highest German league. Initially mostly placed in the midfield, in 1949 the best placement was achieved with fifth place. This put the club in front of the local competitor SV Werder Bremen, which was only able to surpass it in the next few years. 1955 followed the descent into the amateur league. In the promotion round in 1958, the club was unsuccessful, but rose again in 1961 in the Oberliga Nord. An immediate relegation followed. In 1965, the Bremer SV rose to the Regionalliga Nord as the second division. In the 1966/67 season , the BSV rose again in 17th place. During the great times of Bremer SV, several thousand people visited the Panzenberg.

In the 2006/07 season, the Bremer SV was champion of the Bremen Association League, but did not rise to the Oberliga Nord because the license application was rejected. In the 2011/12 season, the team reached the final of the Lotto Cup and lost to FC Oberneuland . From the 2006/07 season the BSV was runner-up six times in a row.

In addition, the BSV won the final of the LOTTO-Pokal (state cup) 1-0 against Blumenthaler SV and qualified for the first round of the DFB-Pokal 2014/15 . The promotion round to Regionalliga Nord 2014/15 ended the BSV pointless and unsuccessful.
In the DFB Cup, the BSV was surprisingly narrowly defeated by Eintracht Braunschweig in the Weserstadion 11th place with 0: 1.

In 2014/15 the BSV finished again and without defeat as champions of the Bremen League. The LOTTO Cup was won by beating Brinkumer SV in the final. In the promotion round to Regionalliga Nord 2015/16 , the BSV finished the promotion round again as bottom of the table and did not rise. In the first round of the 2015/16 DFB Cup , the BSV lost 3-0 against Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt in the Sportpark on Vinnenweg in front of around 3400 spectators.

In 2015/16, Bremer SV again won the championship in the Bremen League. The runner-up Blumenthaler SV lost 3-0 against BSV. At the beginning of the season, Fabrizio Muzzicato, a new coach, was hired, Klaus Gelsdorf worked from then on as a sports consultant and assistant coach. In the promotion round to Regionalliga Nord 2016/17 , Bremer SV first won a 1-1 draw against Lower Saxony runners-up 1. FC Germania Egestorf-Langreder in their home town of Panzenberg, followed by a 2-0 defeat in Drochtersen against Hamburg Representative Altonaer FC 1893 . Since the last away game at SV Eichede from Schleswig-Holstein was lost 2-1, the BSV failed for the third year in a row on the promotion round. The draw for the first-round fixtures in the DFB-Pokal 2016/17 gave the BSV the newly promoted Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98 as an opponent. As in the previous year, the game was played in Oberneuland, and in front of 1,993 spectators they suffered a 7-0 defeat.

In 2016/17 the BSV became champions in the Bremen League without defeat. However, the final of the LOTTO Cup was lost on penalties against the Leher gymnastics club . In the promotion round to Regionalliga Nord 2017/18 the BSV was unsuccessful; Trainer Fabrizio Muzzicato resigned. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Saša Pinter became the new head coach.

In 2018/19 the BSV became champions of the Bremen League. Promotion round matches for Regionalliga Nord: Altona 93 Hamburg with 2: 3 defeat; Heider SV 1: 1. This was the sixth time that the ascent was not achieved. FC Oberneuland won the LOTTO Cup final with 0: 1.

In 2019/20 the newly formed BSV presented itself, still under coach Ralf Voigt. The LOTTO Cup came out in round two (1: 3 n.E. at Blumenthaler SV). Ralf Voigt became sports director at BSV in mid-October 2019.

Upheaval

A radical upheaval in the club in the winter of 2017/2018 was described by the regional media as a "chaos days" after head coach Pinter was dismissed despite leading the table. The board was of the opinion that the sporting goals (promotion) could not be achieved with the coaching team. The reasoning triggered criticism u. a. also because of the intended successor to the coach. The team went on a training strike. The public criticism was enormous, so that the sporting director Klaus Gelsdorf resigned in November 2017 and left the club. The team agreed to resume play, with the assurance that any player who wanted to leave the club during the upcoming winter break would receive clearance. In January 2018, 16 players left the BSV, only six players remained. Cengiz Cakir became the new head coach. There were 19 new additions by the end of January 2018. With the almost new team, the BSV lost the championship lead and retired early in the national cup.

In 2018 the club announced that Ralf Voigt would take over as coach at the beginning of the 2018/2019 season .
