Mika Ahola (born December 13, 1974 in Hämeenlinna , Finland , † January 15, 2012 in Barcelona , Spain ) was a Finnish enduro athlete . He was a member of the victorious Six Days Trophy national team seven times and was world champion in 2007 and 2010 in class E2, in 2008 and 2009 in class E1 and in 2011 in class E3.

Athletic career

Mika Ahola has competed in the Enduro World Championship since 1993 . In 1996 he was a member of the victorious Finnish Six Days team. In 1997 he came second in the Enduro World Championship in the class up to 125 cc two-stroke on a TM . Two years later he was third in the class up to 250 cm³ two-stroke and a member of the victorious Six Days team. In 2000 he was second in the class up to 250 cc two-stroke. For the next season he switched to the Italian motorcycle brand VOR and drove in the 500 cc four-stroke class. In his first year he finished second in the world championship. He repeated this success the following year. In 2003 he reached a fifth place. Between 2002 and 2004 he won the international six-day race with the Finnish national team. For the 2004 season he moved to Husqvarna and was fourth in the E3 class of the Enduro World Championship. He was able to repeat this success in 2005. In 2006 he finished second in the E2 class on a Honda . In 2007 Mika Ahola was world champion in class E2 ahead of his compatriot and defending champion Samuli Aro . The following year he won the world title in class E1. He defended this in 2009. 2010 moved back to class E 2 and won the title again. In 2011 he drove in class E3 and again won the world title.

On New Year's Day 2012, Ahola announced his retirement from Enduro.

Mika Ahola succumbed to serious internal injuries in a hospital in Barcelona on January 15, 2012 , from a training fall a few weeks earlier.
