from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 79th international six-day race was the team world championship in enduro sport and took place from September 13th to 18th, 2004 in Kielce, Poland, and in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The national teams of Finland won the World Trophy for the sixth time and for the third time in a row, and the Junior World Trophy for the second time.

The event took place in Poland for the fourth time, after the 42nd (1967), 62nd (1987) and 70th International Six-Day Tour (1995) had already been awarded to the country.

21 teams for the World Trophy, 13 for the Junior Trophy, 72 club teams and 26 individual drivers from a total of 30 nations took part in the competition.

Germany took part in the World and Junior World Trophy and with 6 club teams. From Austria and Switzerland there were 1 and 2 individual drivers at the start.

1 day

All 417 registered drivers started the first day of the competition.

After the first day of driving, the team from Finland led Italy and France in the World Trophy classification. The German team was in 11th place.

In the Junior Trophy classification, the Italian team was ahead of Spain and Poland. The German team was in 5th place.

The club ranking was led by the MOTO CLUB AZZURRI ahead of HAMMEENLINNAN MOOTTORIKERHO and KBS UAMK TEAM UNHOST I. The best German club team was the DMSB 1 ADAC HESSEN-THÜRINGEN team in 20th place.

2 day

The team from Finland continued to lead the World Trophy ranking ahead of Italy and France. The German team dropped to 12th place.

In the Junior Trophy classification, the Spanish team was ahead of Italy and Finland. The German team was still in 5th place.

The club ranking was led by the MOTO CLUB AZZURRI ahead of HAMMEENLINNAN MOOTTORIKERHO and MOTOKLUB JIRETIN II. The DMSB 1 ADAC HESSEN-THÜRINGEN team improved to 17th place.

3rd day

The driving day was overshadowed by four tragic deaths: A Dutch supervisor on the motorcycle collided with a private car, where he and the two occupants lost their lives.
In the second round of the day's stage, the German World Trophy driver Swen Enderlein had an accident without any outside influence and died at the scene of the accident. The two German national teams (World and Junior World Trophy) broke off the competition immediately afterwards. In the list of results, they were continued in the last places (21 and 13).

In the World Trophy standings, the team from Finland continued to lead ahead of Italy and France.

The Italian team led the Junior Trophy ranking ahead of Spain and Finland.

As on the day before, the club ranking was led by the MOTO CLUB AZZURRI ahead of HAMMEENLINNAN MOOTTORIKERHO and MOTOKLUB JIRETIN II. The DMSB 1 ADAC HESSEN-THÜRINGEN team improved to 14th place.

4th day

At the end of the fourth day of driving, the team from Finland continued to lead ahead of Italy and France in the World Trophy classification.

In the Junior Trophy classification, the Spanish team was ahead of Finland and Poland.

All six German club teams stopped competing on the fourth day of driving and thus withdrew from the competition, as did the national teams. They were continued in the result lists.
The club ranking was continued by the MOTO CLUB AZZURRI ahead of HAMMEENLINNAN MOOTTORIKERHO and MOTOKLUB JIRETIN II.

5th day

The intermediate results after the fifth day of driving: In the World Trophy standings, the team from Finland continued ahead of Italy and France.

In the Junior Trophy, the Spanish team continued to lead ahead of Finland and Poland.

As on the day before, the club ranking was led by the MOTO CLUB AZZURRI ahead of HAMMEENLINNAN MOOTTORIKERHO and MOTOKLUB JIRETIN II.

6th day

On the last day, a short stage and the final motocross was driven as the last special stage.

The latter, however, did not end as planned: The road surface was very dry, which resulted in poor visibility due to the dust. The class E1 drivers still in the competition contested the first races, with numerous falls and one seriously injured. With a few exceptions, the following starters of the E1 as well as the later classes E2 and E3 refused to start under these conditions, and the organizer could not noticeably improve the conditions despite the watering. When two British drivers wanted to start their race anyway, they were stopped by drivers from the Spanish World and Junior World Trophy teams by demonstratively blocking the track. - The jury punished this behavior with the disqualification of the Spanish national teams. The Real Federación Motoclista Española (RFME) protested the decision.

Final results

In November 2004 the International Disciplinary Court (CDI) of the FIM ruled on the appeal of the RFME against the decision of the jury, which had disqualified the Spanish World and Junior World Trophy on the 6th day. - The disqualification remains. As a result, the Junior World Trophy team lost its leading position in this competition and the Finnish team won instead.
