60th international six-day trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 60th international six-day race was the team world championship in enduro sport and took place from September 30 to October 5, 1985 in the Spanish Alp and Cerdanya . The Swedish national team won the World Trophy for the second time. The GDR national team won the Junior World Trophy (successor to the silver vase ), which was held for the first time this year .

organization

One significant change concerned the competition for the silver vase : until 1970, the rule for the World Trophy was that the driver and motorcycle had to come from the same nation. The silver vase was originally intended as a rating for teams from nations without their own motorcycle production. In order to differentiate it from the World Trophy, this trophy has been classified as a Junior World Championship since 1985 and an age limit of 23 years has been introduced.

425 drivers from 26 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition . Teams from 19 and eleven nations competed for the World and Junior World Trophy. In addition, 32 factory and 51 club teams were at the start.

BRD and GDR took part in the World and Junior World Trophy as well as with eight and one club team. Austria took part in the World Trophy as well as with a club team. Six drivers from Switzerland formed two KTM factory teams.

Within each stage of the first five days of driving, two motocross tests between 3 and 5 kilometers, a special test between 2 and a maximum of 8 kilometers and an acceleration test over 200 meters had to be completed.

1 day

Of the 425 registered drivers, 396 from 24 nations entered the competition. The 264-kilometer daily stage led to up to 2500  msnm . The weather was hot and there was no precipitation.

In the World Trophy, the team from Sweden led, ahead of Italy and the team from the GDR. The GDR driver Jens Thalmann received 60 penalty points for not being able to get his motorcycle going within the prescribed time.

At the Junior World Trophy, the Spanish team led the Swedish team ahead of the ČSSR. In the GDR team, Jens Grüner received penalty points because he exceeded the target time at the next checkpoint after a necessary exhaust change.

50 drivers dropped out of the competition.

2 day

The route on the second day was 262 kilometers. The weather was still hot, enormous dust development on the route caused visibility in places.

In the World Trophy, Italy led, ahead of the GDR and Sweden.

In the Junior World Trophy, the GDR team was ahead of Spain and Sweden.

3rd day

The third day's stage was 286 kilometers long. The weather was still hot and free of precipitation.

In the World Trophy, the Italian team led ahead of Sweden and the GDR team.

In the Junior World Trophy, the GDR team continued ahead of Spain and Sweden.

4th day

On the fourth day of driving, the second day's stage was driven in the opposite direction.

In the World Trophy, Italy continued to lead, ahead of Sweden and the GDR team. Jens Thalmann and Jochen Schützler received penalty points in the GDR team : Schützler's motorcycle had run out. The Thalmann driving behind him helped him to find the cause, which was discovered and repaired in a damage to the fuel supply. The motorcycle ran again after an additional spark plug change.

At the Junior World Trophy, as on the previous day, the GDR team led ahead of Spain and the Swedish team. The GDR driver Jens Grüner and the Dutchman Martin Schalkwijk provided first aid to a fallen, seriously injured marshal on the route. The timeout of both drivers was therefore canceled in the evening meeting.

5th day

On the fifth day, the route of the third day must be completed in the opposite direction.

After an Italian driver had to give up a technical defect on his motorcycle, the Swedish team led the GDR and the Spanish team in the World Trophy.

At the Junior World Trophy, the GDR team was still leading ahead of Spain and Sweden.

6th day

On the last day of driving, 81 kilometers had to be covered. The final motocross race, in which seven laps had to be driven in the best time, took place on a track in around 2000  msnm . The weather was overcast and there was only brief drizzle.

In the final race, the GDR trophy drivers Uwe Weber and Reinhard Klädtke each suffered tire damage, which meant that the team fell back to third place in the ranking.

Of the 396 drivers who started on the first day, 251 made it to the finish.
