41st international six-day trip

The 41st International Six-Day Race was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from August 30 to September 4, 1966 in Villingsberg, Sweden . The GDR national team won the trophy for the fourth time in a row. The FRG national team won the silver vase award for the second time.

307 drivers from 16 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition . Teams from seven nations competed for the trophy standings. In addition, 22 silver vase, 36 factory and 31 club teams were at the start.

BRD and GDR took part in the World Trophy as well as with two silver vase teams each. Austria participated with two, Switzerland with a silver vase team. In addition, 13 West German and one GDR club team as well as six West German and five GDR factory teams were at the start. Austria provided three factory teams.

A total of 1627.5 km of route had to be covered.

1 day

Of the 307 registered riders, 287 started the competition. There were 293.2 km of the so-called northeast route to be mastered, which had to be crossed twice as a circular route. The area of ​​a local artillery firing range was also used. The weather was late summer and there was no precipitation.

Two special tests had to be completed: a 400 m long mountain test and a 300 m long combined acceleration and braking test.

In the trophy standings, the FRG team led, ahead of the GDR team and the Sweden team.

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team led in front of the B-team of the GDR and the A-team of Great Britain.

22 drivers dropped out of the competition.

2 day

The route of the second day led from Villingsberg on the so-called southeast route over 290.2 km, which was again a circuit to be completed twice. The weather was still free of precipitation.

Two cross-country speed tests over 3 and 2.5 km had to be mastered at special stages.

In the trophy standings, the FRG team led, ahead of the Sweden and the GDR team.

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team led in front of the B-team of the GDR and the B-team of the FRG.

Twelve drivers dropped out of the competition, two of which did not start.

3rd day

There were 298 km to be completed on the so-called southern route . It had rained lightly the night before. After the start it started to rain again, which lasted for the day.

As on the previous day, two cross-country speed tests over 2.5 and 6 km in length had to be mastered as special tests.

In the trophy standings, the team from Sweden led, ahead of the team from the GDR and the team from Great Britain.

In the silver vase evaluation, the B-team of the FRG led ahead of the A-team of the GDR and the B-team of the ČSSR.

16 drivers were eliminated from the competition, one of which did not start.

4th day

The route of the fourth day led in the opposite direction over the same distance of the first day. The weather was free of precipitation.

The two special tests were two cross-country speed tests over 4.5 and 6 km respectively.

In the trophy standings, the team from Sweden led, ahead of the team from the GDR and the team from Great Britain.

In the silver vase evaluation, the B-team of the FRG led ahead of the A-team of the GDR and the B-team of Finland.

19 drivers dropped out of the competition, four of them did not start anymore.

5th day

The extended route of the second day of the journey had to be completed in the opposite direction. Total length: 336.7 km. The weather was cloudy with heavy rain showers throughout the day.

Again, two special tests had to be completed: the first was a combined acceleration and braking test on asphalt on the industrial site of Kvarntorp . The second was an approximately 1.5 km long mountain speed test on the Kvarntorper heap .

In the trophy standings, the team from the GDR was ahead of the team from Great Britain and the team from Germany.

In the silver vase evaluation, the B-team of the FRG led ahead of the A-team of the GDR and the B-team of Finland.

8 drivers were eliminated from the competition, one of which did not start anymore.

6th day

On the last day of driving 116.2 km had to be completed. The end point was the Karlskoga Motor Stadium , where the final speed test was carried out. According to the announcement, all drivers had to complete a certain number of laps in set times according to their classes. The first three were used to determine the credit points, each missing round was punished with penalty points.

3 drivers dropped out of the competition. Out of 287 drivers who started on the first day, 207 reached the finish.
