24. International six-day trip

The 24th International Six Day Ride was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from September 12 to 17, 1949 in Llandrindod Wells, Welsh, and the surrounding area. The national team of Great Britain won the World Trophy for the thirteenth and second time in a row. The national team of Czechoslovakia won the silver vase for the second time.

The event took place for the fourth time in Llandrindod Wells, after the 15th (1933), 19th (1937) and 20th International Six-Day Race (1938) were held here.

237 drivers from 12 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition. Only teams from four nations competed for the World Trophy. In addition, 14 silver vase and 25 factory teams were at the start.

German drivers and teams were not at the start. Switzerland took part in the World Trophy as well as with two silver vase teams. Wolf von Millenkovich was the only Austrian at the start.

1 day

Of the 237 registered riders, 230 started the competition. The distance on the first day of driving was 243.5  mi (391.9  km ) long. The weather at the start for the season was cool with overcast skies, in the afternoon there was sunshine.

After the first day of driving, the teams from Great Britain and Czechoslovakia in the World Trophy were still without penalty points and were tied. The Italian team was in 3rd place (1 penalty point). With JP Roth, the Swiss team already had a driver failure and was only in 4th and last place. Roth had dislocated his shoulder in an accident with his Condor and had to give up.

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Great Britain (A), Czechoslovakia (B), Switzerland (B), Italy (A) and Hungary (A) were still without penalty points and were tied. In the A-team in Switzerland, W. Hurni was also eliminated, the team was in 14th and last place.

16 drivers dropped out of the competition.

2 day

On the second day, 232 mi (373 km) had to be completed. the weather was similar to the previous day.

In the World Trophy, the teams from Great Britain and Czechoslovakia were free of penalty points and were tied. The Italian team followed in 3rd place with 29 penalty points. After JP Roth was eliminated the day before, the four remaining Swiss World Trophy riders gave up the competition and henceforth finished 4th and last place.

In the silver vase classification, the teams from Great Britain (A), Czechoslovakia (B), Switzerland (B) and Italy (A) were still without penalty points and were tied. The Swiss senior team was in 12th place.

29 drivers dropped out of the competition.

3rd day

The third day's stage was the route of the previous day. It was to be driven in the opposite direction. The weather was overcast in the morning, it cleared up around noon and there was sunshine.

In the World Trophy, the teams from Great Britain and Czechoslovakia were still free of penalty points and were tied. Italy was still in 3rd place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Great Britain (A) and Czechoslovakia (B) were still without penalty points and were tied. The A team of the Netherlands was in third place. The Swiss B and A teams were in 5th and 11th place respectively.

Eight drivers dropped out of the competition.

4th day

On the fourth day, 240 mi (386 km) had to be driven.

At the end of the fourth day of driving, the teams from Great Britain and Czechoslovakia in the World Trophy were still without penalty points and were tied. Italy continued to occupy 3rd place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Great Britain (A) and Czechoslovakia (B) were still without penalty points and were tied. Third place went to the A-team from the Netherlands. The Swiss B and A teams were 4th and 11th respectively.

Twelve drivers dropped out of the competition.

5th day

On the fifth day the route of the fourth day was driven in the opposite direction. The day began with rain, later there were only short showers from time to time.

The intermediate results after the fifth day of driving: The team from Great Britain led ahead of Czechoslovakia and Italy.

In the silver vase classification, the teams from Great Britain (A) and Czechoslovakia (B) were still without penalty points and were tied. Third place went to the A-team from the Netherlands. The Swiss B and A teams were 4th and 9th respectively.

13 drivers dropped out of the competition.

6th day

A short stage was driven on the last day. The final race took place on a 5.2 mi (8 km) long circuit.

One driver dropped out of the competition. Of the 230 drivers who started on the first day, 151 reached the finish.
