42nd international six-day trip

The 42nd International Six-Day Ride was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from September 17-22, 1967 in Zakopane, Poland, as well as in the Western Tatras and the High Tatras . The GDR national team won the World Trophy for the fifth time in a row. The silver vase won the Czechoslovak national team for the tenth time.

The six-day trip took place in Poland for the first time in its history. The event was hosted by the Polish motor sports association Polski Związek Motorowy (PZM).

328 drivers from 17 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition . Teams from nine nations competed for the trophy standings. In addition, 23 silver vase, 39 factory and 30 club teams were at the start.

BRD and GDR took part in the World Trophy as well as with two silver vase teams each. Austria took part in the World Trophy as well as with a silver vase team. In addition, 13 West German and three GDR club teams as well as five West German, four GDR and three Austrian factory teams were at the start. Two individual drivers from Switzerland took part.

A total of 1591 km of route had to be covered. For the first time since 1960, only one special test was planned per day of driving.

1 day

Of the 328 registered drivers, 314 started the competition. The weather was late summer and there was no precipitation.

At 314.6 kilometers, the day's stage was the longest of the event. After the start, the route first led to Nowy Targ . From there a circuit had to be driven twice.

The special test was a 7-kilometer cross-country test between Luboń Mały ( 896  m npm ) and the summit of Luboń Wielki ( 1022  m npm ). It had to be completed in the second round.

In the World Trophy, the team from the GDR was ahead of the team from Austria and the team from Germany.

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team of the ČSSR led ahead of the A-team of the FRG and the A-team of the GDR. The B teams of the GDR and FRG followed in 4th and 5th place respectively.

39 drivers dropped out of the competition.

2 day

The distance on the second day was 287.6 kilometers. The weather was overcast but there was no precipitation.

As the day before, the route from Zakopane first led to Nowy Targ, from where a circuit had to be driven twice. The special test took place shortly after the start on the outskirts of Zakopane and was a 2.9 kilometers long mountain test on asphalt.

In the World Trophy, the GDR team led the Austria team and the ČSSR team. In the team of the FRG Norbert Gabler retired, the team took 6th place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team of the ČSSR led ahead of the A- and B-teams of the FRG. The A and B teams from the GDR followed in fourth and fifth place.

16 drivers dropped out of the competition.

3rd day

The route was identical to that of the previous day and had to be driven in the opposite direction. The weather was sunny in the morning, later it started to rain.

The special test was a 4.2 kilometer long mountain test on asphalt.

In the World Trophy, the GDR team continued ahead of the Austria team and the ČSSR team. The team from Germany took 6th place

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team of the ČSSR led ahead of the B-team of the FRG and the A-team of the GDR. The B-team of the GDR took 4th place.

17 drivers were eliminated from the competition.

4th day

The length of the day's stage was 307 kilometers. It had rained the night before and the track surface was damp or soaked in places. There was no precipitation on the day itself.

Again, starting at Nowy Targ, a circuit was marked out that had to be completed twice. The special test of the day was an acceleration test over 300 meters on a road.

In the World Trophy, the Austrian team was ahead of the GDR team and the ČSSR team. The team from the FRG was still in 6th place.

As on the previous day, the A-team of the ČSSR led the B-team of the FRG and the A-team of the GDR in the silver vase evaluation. As on the day before, the GDR B-team came in fourth.

25 drivers dropped out of the competition.

5th day

The route was identical to that of the previous day and had to be completed in the opposite direction. Still hazy at the start, the sky soon cleared and the rest of the day remained sunny.

The special test was a terrain test over 2.5 kilometers to the summit of Gubałówka ( 1126  m npm )

In the World Trophy ranking, the GDR team ahead of the ČSSR team and the Austrian team. The team of the FRG was unchanged on the 6th place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the A-team of the ČSSR continued to lead ahead of the B-team of the FRG and the A-team of the GDR. The GDR B team continued to occupy fourth place.

14 drivers dropped out of the competition.

6th day

The length of the day's stage was the shortest at 87.2 kilometers. The weather stayed sunny until shortly before the end of the final race, then it began to rain heavily.

The last special stage was the final race, which was held as a road race. The circuit was 3.85 kilometers long. There were six laps to be driven which, depending on the class, had to be completed within specified times. The first three were used to determine the credit points, each missing round was punished with penalty points.

One driver dropped out of the competition. Of the 314 drivers who started on the first day, 202 reached the finish.
