Karlheinz Wagner (born July 21, 1938 in Borstendorf ) is a former German enduro athlete .

During his career from 1965 to 1967, he won the International Six-Day Race three times in a row with the GDR Trophy team . In 1969, Wagner was part of the victorious MZ team for the fourth time . In 1967 the Erzgebirgler won the European Cup - the forerunner of the European Championship - on MZ in the class up to 350 cm³. In 1969 he was also GDR champion .

Athletic career

As a member of the GST core team, Karlheinz Wagner was third in the GDR championship in 1962. He played his first Six Days in 1963 in the silver vase team. A year later , Wagner took second place with the MZ Quartet. In 1965 he was appointed to the GDR Trophy Team as a works driver and landed his first major success with him. On the 250 MZ he was the only one in his class to win a gold medal in England. In 1966 and 1967 , the team with Karlheinz managed to defend the trophy victory at the international six-day race twice. After finishing fourth in 1968 , the GDR sextet was once again on the top podium a year later at the Six Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In 1970 he made his last six-day ride and returned home again with a gold medal. His class win at “ Around Zschopau ” in 1966 was followed shortly thereafter by the one with the most points at the International Austrian Alpine Tour, for which he received the “Edelweiss”. In 1967 the Erzgebirger won the European Cup, the forerunner of the European Championship, in the class up to 350 cm³ on MZ - again with a class win and "Edelweiss" at the Alpine Tour. Two years later he was runner-up in this capacity limit after winning the European Championship round in Zschopau again. He was also runner-up in the national championships in 1965 and 1968. In 1969 Wagner won his first and only GDR championship title. At the end of the 1970 season he retired from active sports. 1986 to 1990 he was head of the MZ sports department and was able to celebrate a Six Days success in 1987 even as a non-active person .

In 1970 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in the GDR for his sporting successes .
