Werner Stiegler

Werner Stiegler (born May 13, 1931 in Gelenau ) is a former German enduro athlete .

During his career he won several national events, was successful in the International Six Day Trips and the International Austrian Alpine Trip. At the "Six Days" in 1965 he won the International Silver Vase with the MZ Quartet.

Athletic career

Werner Stiegler was a keen winter sports enthusiast when he was at school . He learned the trade of a carpenter and made his first motorcycle off-road trip in 1950. In 1953 he became a member of the GST core team and soon became a test driver at MZ. From 1956 he started as a Zschopau works driver. He finished “ Around Zschopau ” at the first event in 1955 with a gold medal and repeated this success - with two exceptions - up to and including 1966. He won his class three times, in 1958 and 1960 he achieved overall victory. In 1961 he won the "Edelweiss" at the International Austrian Alpine Tour. In 1957 Werner Stiegler made his first international six-day trip. Two years later he won gold for the first time at the Six Days and repeated this success in 1960 with a class win. In 1964 and 1966 he finished second with the silver vase team. Stiegler celebrated his greatest triumph at one of the toughest Six Days - in 1965 on the Isle of Man  . In the MZ Quartet, he won the International Silver Vase. With his eighth six-day drive, he ended his career in Sweden a year later. Like some of his contemporaries, Werner, as a works driver from 1960 until the end of his active career, was not rated for the GDR championship according to the regulations .
