34th international six-day trip

The 34th International Six-Day Tour was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from September 14th to 19th, 1959 in Gottwaldov, Czechoslovakia, and the surrounding area. The national teams of Czechoslovakia won the World Trophy for the sixth and second time in a row and the silver vase for the eighth and third time in a row.

The event took place for the fourth time in Gottwaldov, after the 22nd (1947), 28th (1953) and 30th International Six-Day Race (1955) were held here.

246 drivers from 16 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition. Teams from eight nations competed for the World Trophy. In addition, 21 silver vase, 24 factory and 25 club teams were at the start.

BRD and GDR took part in the World Trophy as well as with two silver vase teams each. Switzerland participated with a silver vase team. There were also seven West German, two GDR and one Swiss club team at the start.

1 day

Of the 246 registered drivers, 237 took up the competition.

After the first day of driving, the teams from Italy, Germany, the Soviet Union and Sweden were tied with no penalty points in the World Trophy. The GDR team was in 5th place.

The teams from Belgium, Bulgaria (A and B), Czechoslovakia (A and B), Finland, the Netherlands (A and B), Italy (A and B), the FRG (A and B) and the GDR were in the silver vase evaluation (B), Poland (A and B), Romania (A and B) and the Soviet Union (A and B) still without penalty points and were tied. The GDR A-team was in 20th place with 1 penalty point. Rudolf Wyss was eliminated from the Swiss team , which meant 100 penalty points for the team from now on. For the time being, Switzerland came in 21st and last place.

Eight drivers dropped out of the competition.

2 day

The World Trophy led the only team in the Soviet Union still free of penalty points. Behind them were the teams from Czechoslovakia, Italy and Sweden with 1 penalty point each in second place. The GDR team was still in fifth place. With Klaus Kämper and Eberhard Graf , two drivers retired from the FRG team, which put the team in 6th place (on a par with the British team).

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Bulgaria (B), Czechoslovakia (A and B), Finland, the Netherlands (A), FRG (A and B), GDR (B) and Romania (A and B) were free of penalty points and lay tied in the lead. The A-team of the GDR was in 11th place (tied with four other teams with 1 penalty point each). In the Swiss team, Charly Fiedler was the second driver to retire, leaving the team behind in last place.

18 drivers dropped out of the competition.

3rd day

In the World Trophy, the penalty-free team of the Soviet Union led. Czechoslovakia and Italy shared 2nd place with 1 penalty point each. The team from the GDR and FRG took 4th and 6th place respectively.

In the silver vase classification, the teams from Czechoslovakia (A and B), Finland, the FRG (A and B), the GDR (B) and Romania (A and B) were still free of penalty points and were tied in the lead. The A-team of the GDR was in 9th place (tied with two other teams with 1 penalty point each). In the Swiss team, Hans Sonderegger was already the third driver to retire and the team was still lagging behind in last place.

15 drivers dropped out of the competition.

4th day

At the end of the fourth day of driving, the team from Czechoslovakia led the GDR and Italy in the World Trophy. The team from Germany was in 6th place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Czechoslovakia (A and B), Finland, the FRG (A and B), the GDR (B) and Romania (A) continued to have no penalty points and were tied in the lead. In the A-team of the GDR Hans-Joachim Sell was eliminated, the team was in 14th place. The Swiss team was still in last place.

Ten drivers dropped out of the competition.

5th day

The intermediate results after the fifth day of driving: The team from Czechoslovakia continued to lead in the World Trophy. The teams of the GDR and Italy shared 2nd place with 106 penalty points each. The FRG was unchanged in 6th place.

In the silver vase evaluation, the teams from Czechoslovakia (A and B), Finland and Romania (A) continued to have no penalty points and were tied in the lead. The A-team of the FRG was in 5th place (on a par with the B-team of Poland and Romania), the B-team was in 8th place. The A- and B-team of the GDR were on the 16th and 9th respectively. Space. The Swiss team remained in last place.

Seven drivers dropped out of the competition.

6th day

On the last day there was a stage and the final race (speed test).

Of the 237 drivers who started on the first day, 179 reached the finish.
