The 14th International Six-Day Ride was an off-road motorcycle competition that took place from August 29 to September 3, 1932 in Merano, Italy, and the surrounding Alps. The national teams of Great Britain were able to win the trophy for the ninth time and the silver vase for the eighth and third time in a row.

competition

After the victory of the Italian trophy team the previous year, the six-day race again took place in Merano, Italy. Again the daily stages led over the passes of the Dolomites and the Italian Alps.

Teams from Italy, Great Britain, Czechoslovakia and Germany competed for the trophy standings. The German trophy team consisted of the BMW drivers Ernst Jakob Henne , Josef Stelzer and Josef Mauermayer (team).

Two teams from Great Britain, Germany, Czechoslovakia and the Netherlands as well as one team each from Austria and Switzerland competed for the silver vase ranking. The German Silbervase-A-team consisted of the brothers Georg , Hans and Konrad Thumshirn, who drove on Ardie . The Austrian silver vase team consisted of Iglseder (BMW), Pospischil ( Ariel ) and Otto Steinfellner ( Puch ).

128 drivers were registered. Among them were the British Edyth Foley on Gilera and Marjorie Cottle on BSA

1 day

On the first day, the 294-kilometer route led from Merano over the Jaufenpass , Brixen , Klausen , Ortisei , Grödner Joch , Sterzing and over the Jaufenpass back to Merano.

Five drivers dropped out of the competition. Six drivers received penalty points. Due to several flat tires by the German NSU driver Paul Rüttchen and cutting it out, the German silver vase A-team burst.

2 day

On the second day, 370 kilometers had to be covered. The route led from Merano via Bolzano , Trento , Borgo Valsugana , Broconne Pass , La Gobera , Imer , Fiera di Primero , Passo Cereda , Forcella Aurine , Agordo , Caprili , Pordoijoch , Passo Costalunga and Bolzano back to Merano.

The road conditions were also difficult on the second day. The German sidecar driver Josef Mauermayer slipped into the ditch in a curve. Due to the damaged sidecar wheel, he was no longer able to reach the next time controls in time and received a total of 33 penalty points.

Due to the loss of Piet Nortier, the Dutch B-team burst in the silver vase classification.

In the Trophy ranking, the Italian, British and Czechoslovak teams are tied without any penalty. The German team has 33 penalty points. In the silver vase classification, the two Italian teams, the Czechoslovak A-Team, the British A-Team, the German A-Team, the Austrian and the Swiss team are still free of penalty points. This is followed by the British B-Team (14 penalty points), Netherlands A (21), Netherlands B (100), Czechoslovakia B (201) and the German B-Team (300 penalty points).

Four drivers dropped out of the competition.

3rd day

The distance on the third day of driving was 353 kilometers. The route led among other things over the Sella and Pordojoch. Again, the control times were tight. For the 250 cc motorcycles and the sidecars, the average speed was 35 km / h and for the larger motorcycles 40 km / h. A heavy thunderstorm on the Pordoi made the competition even more difficult.

Josef Mauermeyer received eight penalty points again. At last year's winner, the Dutch A-team in the silver vase classification, Bertus van Hamersveld fell out with a broken bike. A title defense was no longer possible.

In the trophy classification, the Italian, British and Czechoslovak teams were still free of penalty points. The German team has 41 penalty points.

In the silver vase evaluation, the two Italian teams as well as the A teams from Great Britain and Germany were free of penalty points. This was followed by Czechoslovakia A (10 penalty points), Great Britain B (14), Switzerland (19), Austria (100), Netherlands A (121), Netherlands B (200), Czechoslovakia B (301) and Germany B (501).

Nine drivers dropped out of the competition.

4th day

109 drivers started competing on the 373-kilometer route on the fourth day. The route partly led over narrow military roads. Among other things, the Passo di Campo Grosso and the Passo di Xomo had to be crossed.

Due to the failure of the Austrian Iglseder, this silver vase team burst. Edyth Foley was eliminated after falling and breaking his wrist.

There was no change in the Trophy rating compared to the presentation. The two Italian teams and the British A-team lead in the silver vase ranking. The German A team has one penalty point. This was followed by the Czechoslovak A team (10 penalty points), Great Britain B (14), Switzerland (24), Austria (200), Netherlands A (221), Netherlands B (300), Czechoslovakia B (401) and Germany B (701 ).

Eight drivers dropped out of the competition.

5th day

The route on the last day led over the Mendel Pass to Lake Garda and back to Merano via Bolzano.

The Czechoslovak driver Kaiser auf Jawa received 26 penalty points. This means that the Czechoslovak team falls out of the battle for the trophy rating. Thus only the British and Italian teams were free of penalty points.

In the silver vase evaluation, the result at the end of the fifth day was as follows: Italy A and B, Great Britain A (all 0 penalty points), Germany (1), Czechoslovakia (10), Great Britain B (14), Switzerland (38) .

Two drivers dropped out of the competition.

6th day

On the last day, another 351 kilometers had to be covered. The route led from Merano via Costalunga , Fassatal , Predazzo , Forcella Aurine , Cortina d'Ampezzo , Passo di Falzarego , Arabba , Pordoi, Sella, Bozen back to Merano. On the last day, a stage and the final race (speed test) were driven as the last special stage. The circuit, set up on a road triangle, had a length of 2.975 kilometers. Depending on the class, the drivers had to complete a certain number of laps (see table) within an hour.

The British Trophy driver Albert E. Perrigo had a defect during this test. However, he was able to catch up again.

The Italian driver of the A-Team Carlo Fumagalli suffered a puncture in the silver vase classification . Since the B-Team was on the weaker motorcycles, the British team was able to win in this category too.

Of the 128 drivers who started on the first day, 99 made it to the finish.
