Katja Worch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katja Worch (born September 26, 1930 in Berlin ; † September 17, 2012 in Berlin) was a German photojournalist .

Journalistic activity

From 1950 to 1952 Katja Worch was assistant to the photo reporter Max Ittenbach with a focus on studio photography. In 1964 she became a master photographer and then worked for almost 30 years as a photo reporter for the GDR women's magazine Für Dich .

Worch was involved in the exhibition "Utopia and Reality - East German Photography 1956-1989", which was on view from March 18 to April 24, 2005 in Berlin and from November 20 to February 27, 2005 in Cologne . Photography in the GDR moved within the parameters of presenting the living conditions without concealment and of working out what was one's own, also linked with elements of the comedy. An example of this is Katja Worch's photo work in the context of the exhibition, which shows workers from the Leuna-Werke jumping rope during their lunch break.

She says about her work:

“I've been working for a women's magazine for 25 years; notice how good it is to want a lot and to be allowed to do a lot - and how difficult it is to achieve this. I would like to tell about this with my pictures, draw attention to it, to live in different ways, to participate a little in my own decisions. "

review

The photographs in the volume "Frauenbilder" are presented as authentic images of women in their various social and emotional facets. It is also possible to reveal a past reality in its “musty, narrow-minded” aspects. (PHOTOPress)
