Holde-Barbara Ulrich (* 1940 in Templin ) is a German journalist and author .

Life

Holde-Barbara Ulrich was born in Templin in the Uckermark in 1940 . In 1944, as a result of air raids, her family was evacuated to the nearby village of Flieth , where they stayed after the war. There her father was able to work as a new teacher after returning from American captivity . After graduating from high school, Ulrich worked in agriculture for a year in order to be admitted to study in spite of her bourgeois and intellectual background, which in the eyes of the GDR rulers was flawed . She then studied philosophy and African studies at the East Berlin Humboldt University . Ulrich about her studies:

“It was five years of mental confinement. Mutual distrust among the students, the resulting denunciations and constant justifications were the order of the day. Unbearable, and only got through for the sake of the father. "

After graduating, she worked in the foreign department of the state news agency ADN until the fall of the Wall , but without ever being able to travel to western countries herself. In 1990 Ulrich left the ADN , published her first volume of poetry and went to the women's magazine Für Dich , which she left after a short time. Since then she has been working as a freelance writer, a. a. for Zeit , Spiegel , Elle , Focus and Brigitte .

Holde-Barbara Ulrich is married and lives partly in Berlin, partly in a village in Havelland .
