Soliman Pasha
Soliman Pascha , Turkish Süleyman Paşa , arab. Sulayman Pasha ; (* 1788 as Joseph Anthelme Sève in Lyon ; † 1860 in Cairo ) called al-Faransawî ( "the French" ) was a French - Egyptian officer.
Joseph Anthelme Sève was a soldier in the French army from 1803-1814 and most recently an adjutant to Marshal Grouchy . In 1815 he went to Egypt, which was ruled by Muhammad Ali Pasha at the time . There he served on the staff of Ibrahim Pasha , the son of Muhammad Ali Pasha. The Egyptian army was modernized under the direction of Joseph Anthelme Sèves . The army he modernized was able to defeat the Wahhabis in Arabia in the Ottoman-Saudi War (1811-1818) , advance along the Nile to Sudan and fight the Greek Revolution (1821-1829). In 1823 Joseph Anthelme Sève was appointed Bey . 1824-27 he fought under Ibrahim Pascha in Morea ( Peloponnese ). In 1831 he became major general . As such, he fought in Ibrahim Pasha's army against the Ottoman army . He distinguished himself at the Battle of Konya in 1832 and was made Pasha .
