Brigitte is a German women's magazine that is published every two weeks by Gruner + Jahr .
The magazine deals primarily with the topics of fashion , culture , psychology , partnership , medicine , the environment , living , work and politics .
history
Brigitte goes to the magazine This sheet belongs to the housewife! back, which appeared for the first time on July 3, 1886 in Berlin's Friedrich Schirmer Verlag. In 1905 it was taken over by Ullstein-Verlag , which renamed it Ullstein's sheet of housewife in 1915 . The journalist and women's rights activist Barbara von Treskow , who began working for the newspaper “Hausfrau” in the 1920s and became its editor-in-chief in 1933, is known as the “spiritual mother of Brigitte ”. The name was already used in an advertising slogan in 1926, and from 1932 to 1944 in over 300 “Brigitten days” - colorful evenings that von Treskow organized for women in Berlin.
From 1952, "Brigitte" was added to the title and gradually emphasized more and more until the lettering "Blatt der Hausfrau" was completely omitted on May 1, 1954 - this day is now used in advertising by Gruner + Jahr as the founding date of Brigitte designated. At that time the circulation was 200,000 copies. In 1957 it was taken over by Constanze-Verlag, the publisher of the then market-leading women's magazine Constanze , which was incorporated into Brigitte in 1969 . Constanze editor-in-chief Hans Huffzky and his editors Peter Brasch and Hannelore Holtz (later Krollpfeiffer) worked out the content structure of the paper. In essence, it still applies today. In 1985 Brigitte became the market leader herself, ahead of Für Sie und freundin .
Editors-in-chief
The Brigitte's longest-serving editor-in-chief (from 1957 to 1984) was Peter Brasch . Anne Volk headed the magazine from 1985 to 2001. In May 2009, the editors-in-chief of the print edition and the internet branch brigitte.de were merged and jointly managed by Andreas Lebert and Brigitte Huber . Lebert was replaced by Stephan Schäfer in August 2012, and Brigitte Huber has been the sole editor-in-chief since April 2013.

F Mag
In March 2017, F Mag appeared , a print magazine with the slogan “Politics, Sex & Lametta” for an unconventional, young and predominantly female target group. The booklet emerged from a student project at the Henri Nannen School and was the first time Gruner + Jahr had implemented a student idea. It remained in one issue and was continued online under the umbrella of brigitte.de until November 2019.
Actions
In October 2009 the initiative "Without Models" was announced, according to which from January 2, 2010 in the Brigitte and its offshoots and online portals for all photo series no more professional models, especially no skinny models , will be photographed, but only "normal" Women. Brigitte received a lot of applause and approval for the initiative, while critics said it was just a PR strategy. After a change in the editor-in-chief, Brigitte has been showing professional models in her magazine again since September 6, 2012. The readers have complained about inferiority complexes.
The complete print version of Brigitte for the blind has been made available in a digital version since 2002, which, according to the publisher, "is the first magazine for women in Germany whose full editorial content is available to the blind."
