Charlotte March

Charlotte March (born October 8, 1930 in Essen , † May 29, 2005 in Hamburg ) was a German photographer .

Life

March attended the Hamburg Art School Alsterdamm from 1950 to 1954. In 1956 she became a lecturer at the master school for fashion in Hamburg . During this time, she decided to become a photographer, but initially also sketched for fashion magazines such as Film und Frau and Constanze . In 1961 she opened her first studio on Sierichstrasse in Hamburg. Later she took part in the World Exhibition of Photography and the 2nd World Exhibition of Photography . In 1968 she won the Culture Prize of the German Society for Photography and awards from the New York Art Director Club for her photo series in the Twen magazine . Charlotte March worked in her studio on Jarrestrasse in Hamburg-Winterhude until 1998 . All of Charlotte March's works and her estate are in the Falckenberg Collection in Hamburg.

Charlotte March lived with the actor and visual artist Balduin Baas for over 30 years , to whom she attributed a significant influence on her artistic development.

Work (selection)

  • From 1956 collaboration with Gruner + Jahr , Brigitte , Stern .
  • First advertising orders in Paris, photographed for Elle .
  • From 1960 in London, commissioned work for advertising agencies, Guinness advertisement (Jan Pugh with Guinness glass, JW Thompson) as well as for the magazines / newspapers Queen , Flair , Vantity Fair , Harper's Bazaar , Tatler , Nova , Daily Mirror and Evening Standard .
  • In 1961 the magazine Twen came out, in collaboration with Willy Fleckhaus .
  • 1977 Publication of the book Man, oh man! - A proposal for the emancipation of the attractive man .

This is followed by work for Italian Vogue , French Marie Claire , and again and again for Brigitte , Stern , Quick and advertising contracts for Renault , Cockburn's port and various cigarette brands.
