World Exhibition of Photography

The World Exhibition of Photography was a project by various museums, cities and associations that was implemented in 1964 . The topic was: what is man? The project was repeated again in 1968 and was then called the 2nd World Exhibition of Photography . Selected photographs have been combined in an illustrated book. Heinrich Böll wrote the foreword to this volume .

concept

In response to the question raised by Karl Pawek what is man? The photographers involved looked for and gave answers in all possible situations with pictures of people from all over the world. These were grouped into chapters in the conservative concept of the exhibition. The world exhibitions were organized by Karl Pawek.

The book accompanying the exhibition was number 1 on the Spiegel bestseller list for 12 weeks in 1965 .
