The girlfriend ( spelling : Freundin ) is a women's magazine published in Munich . It is published by the girlfriend publishing house of Hubert Burda Media .
history
The bi-weekly magazine has been published since 1948. Originally the title was your girlfriend . The magazine, initially published by the Neue Verlagsgesellschaft , was taken over by Burda Verlag in 1962 and merged with the magazine Film Revue under the name of Freund Film Revue in 1963 . In 1967 she received the current magazine title: Girlfriend . Under Hubert Burda , the magazine was clearly "rejuvenated": the title Girlfriend - Living in a Young Style was also intended to address girls from the age of 16. According to the publisher, women aged 25 to 49 are the main target group. As part of the specialization of women's titles since the 1970s, the Wellfit branch appeared in 2000 , but was discontinued in 2011.
The growing medialization also left its mark on the girlfriend . In 1997 the friend got her own website. The girlfriend TV format has been online since October 2004 .
In 2005 Burda took over the title Journal for the woman from Axel Springer AG and integrated it into the girlfriend . Under the motto: “Live your best life”, the women's magazine deals with the topics of fashion, beauty, psychology and relationships, health and nutrition, jobs, lifestyle, travel, living, cooking and culture. In the same year, the magazine began to enclose love films and romances on DVD. However, after only eleven films this was discontinued.
In July 2005, Ulrike Zeitlinger became the friend's editor-in-chief and made some changes to the magazine. The category living easier was introduced. In 2006 the magazine received the fashion media award in the women's magazine category. In 2007 the author Michael Braun received the business journalist award for his girlfriend financial special So your money grows , which appeared in August 2006 as a special issue.
From September 2012 Nikolaus Albrecht was editor-in-chief, Ulrike Zeitlinger then headed the Donna magazine she had developed . The slogan of the magazine is since the beginning of 2016 "Happy life".
On September 1, 2019, editor-in-chief Nikolaus Albrecht was replaced by Anke Helle and Mateja Mögel. In October 2019, Hubert Burda Media announced the reduction of 23 of the magazine's 42 editorial positions.

Girlfriend has lost a lot of circulation in recent years . The circulation sold has fallen by 67 percent since 1998. It is currently 200,333 copies. This corresponds to a decrease of 405,838 units. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 39.9 percent.
