The Stalinez-65 (also S-65 abbreviated, Russian Сталинец-65 ) was a Soviet chain tractor built from 1937 to 1941 , which was used as a towing vehicle in agriculture and the military. It was the successor to the Stalinez-60 , built from May 1933 , which was a copy of the American Caterpillar 60.
Vehicle history
It was built in the Chelyabinsk tractor factory . It differed from its predecessor, the Stalinez-60 , mainly in the installation of a diesel engine .
The number in the name indicates the engine's horsepower . The engine was started by an auxiliary engine W-20 with 20 hp. The tractor's transmission had three forward gears and one reverse gear, and the vehicle also had an electrical system with six volts on-board voltage for the four headlights.
Production ended shortly after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War when production was switched to tanks. A total of 37,626 units were built, of which, according to unconfirmed information, around 10,000 units went to the Red Army . The successor was the Stalinez-80 built from 1946 to 1958 .
The Stalinez-65 served as inspiration for the construction of the German caterpillar tractor Ost , which used different technology, but was designed for similar applications.
