The Stalinez-80 ( Russian Сталинец-80 , also abbreviated as S-80) is a Soviet heavy chain tractor that was built in Chelyabinsky Traktorny Sawod from 1946 . It was the successor to the Stalinez-65 , which was built until 1941, and was replaced by the Stalinez-100 in 1958 after more than 200,000 copies . With the appropriate dozer blades, the vehicle can be used as a bulldozer .

Vehicle history

A vehicle built in 1953, cabin and paint scheme not original

The order to build the Stalinez-80 as a replacement for the Stalinez-65 was given to Tscheljabinski Traktorny Sawod by the Council of Ministers of the USSR in October 1945. Among other things, it stipulated that the model had to be based on the Caterpillar D8 and that production was to be carried out in 1946 should begin. In addition, a target was set for the production of 10,000 machines for 1949.

The first Stalinez-80 was completed on January 5, 1946. In addition to the more powerful engine, in contrast to its predecessor, it also had a closed cabin that protects the driver from the weather. As was common with heavy agricultural and construction machinery from Soviet production at that time, the model had a small gasoline engine instead of an electric starter . The two-cylinder P-46 engine was on the one hand necessary for the large moving masses of the large-volume diesel engine, on the other hand it makes starting easier in severe frost. Series production of the tractors began on July 12, 1946.

In practice, the run of 10,000 machines per year was soon exceeded. Exactly 200,296 copies rolled off the production lines in Chelyabinsk within twelve years; production was discontinued in 1958. The successor was the similar Stalinez-100 , whose engine, however, has a higher output.
