58th international six-day trip

The 58th International Six-Day Race was the team world championship in enduro sport and took place from 11 to 16 October 1983 in Builth Wells, Welsh, and the surrounding area. The national teams of Sweden won the World Trophy for the third time and the silver vase for the fourth time.

The event was held in Wales for the eighth time, following the 15th (1933), 19th (1937), 20th (1938), 24th (1949), 25th (1950), 29th (1954) and 36th International six-day race (1961) were held here.

359 drivers from 20 FIM motorsport associations were registered for the competition .

Teams from 16 and 17 nations competed for the World Trophy and Silver Vase. In addition, 31 factory and 50 club teams were at the start.

The Federal Republic of Germany, the GDR, Austria and Switzerland each took part in the World Trophy and Silver Vase. Furthermore, five German and three Austrian club teams started.

1 day

In the World Trophy, the Swedish team led the GDR and the FRG team. The Austrian team took 10th place. On the first day, Jean Jacques Loup was eliminated from the Swiss team , which meant 15,000 points and 13th place for the team from now on.

In the silver vase, the FRG team led the GDR team and the Italian team. Austria took 13th place. Analogous to the World Trophy, the Swiss team had already suffered a driver failure ( Hans Meister ), the team finished 15th.

2 day

In the World Trophy, the Swedish team led ahead of the FRG and the French team. The GDR team suffered a driver failure with Frank Schubert , which put the team in 8th place. With Rudolf Egger and Rudolf Prombrager , the Austrian team had two driver cancellations , which meant 11th place for the team. Two drivers from the Swiss team also dropped out ( John von Rotz and Bruno Schmidli ), and the team took 15th place.

In the case of the silver vase, the team from the FRG led ahead of the team from the GDR and the team from Czechoslovakia. In the Austrian team, Peter Meurayter dropped out and the team continued to occupy 13th place. With Roland Huguelet and Samuel Wuillemin, two more Swiss drivers retired, which meant that 17th and last place was on the books and only Philippe Schweizer was in the race.

3rd day

In the World Trophy, Sweden continued to lead ahead of France and Czechoslovakia. It was followed by the FRG team in 4th place, the GDR team still in 8th place. Hubert Trattner was out of the Austrian team , the team took 14th place. The Swiss team followed in 15th place.

The team from Germany led the team from Czechoslovakia and the team from Sweden in the silver vase. In the GDR team, Uwe Weber dropped out, the team took 8th place. Johann Lebsinger was eliminated from the Austrian team , the team continued to occupy 13th place. With Philippe Schweizer, the last driver of the Swiss team also retired, which means that they took 17th and last place.

4th day

In the World Trophy, the Swedish team led ahead of Czechoslovakia and France. The GDR team improved to 7th place. With Fritz Witzel and Richard Schalber , the team of the Federal Republic of Germany had two driver failures, for the team this meant place 10. The team from Austria also had two driver failures ( Franz Strobl and Johann Haslacher ), so only Hans Danzinger was in Run. Austria took 15th place. And the Swiss team also had two driver failures: Anton Durrer and Walter Frei were eliminated from the competition, the team was in 16th and last place.

In the silver vase, the team from Sweden led ahead of the team from Czechoslovakia and the team from Finland. The GDR team improved to 7th place. Bernhard Brinkmann , Eddy Hau and Arnulf Teuchert were eliminated from the Federal Republic team, and the team dropped from 1st to 13th place without hope. Franz Schweighofer was eliminated from the Austrian team , the team was in 14th place. The Swiss team was in 17th place.

5th day

In the World Trophy, Sweden continued to lead ahead of Czechoslovakia and France. The GDR team continued to occupy 7th place, the FRG improved to 9th place. Austria and Switzerland were unchanged in 15th and 16th place respectively.

In the silver vase, the team from Sweden was ahead of the team from Canada and the team from Czechoslovakia. The teams from GDR and FRG continued to occupy 7th and 13th place respectively, followed by Austria in 14th place. The Swiss team was in 17th place.

6th day

Of the 359 drivers who started on the first day, 199 made it to the finish.
