Frank Schubert (racing driver)

Frank Schubert (born June 5, 1949 in Waldkirchen near Zschopau ) is a former German enduro athlete .

During his career he advanced to the point-best single driver of all Six Days participants at the International Six Days Race in 1979 . With the national team he was vice world champion several times, in the individual competition several times vice European champion. 1970 to 1983 he also won six national titles.

Athletic career

In 1968 Frank Schubert, a trained blacksmith , won as a member of the MZ Zschopau motorsport club in the ID class up to 175 cm³ and was junior champion. A year later he was GDR runner-up behind Peter Uhlig. He was accepted as a factory driver and test fitter in the MZ sports department.

He played his first Six Days in Spain in October 1970 in the GDR B silver vase team. Schubert immediately took second place in his cubic capacity category. This year he was also GDR champion in the class up to 250 cm³ .

In 1971 he was first appointed to the trophy team, with which he was third in the team world championship on the Isle of Man . Twelve months later he was runner-up in the world championship. In the GDR trophy team he was used a total of eleven times, won the vice world championship in two more years and also came third in 1976.

By 1974 Schubert was runner-up three times, and from 1973 to 1983 six times third at the European Championship in the quarter-liter class. Between 1974 and 1983 he won another five national titles, and Schubert had six GDR championship victories in total.

He achieved his most outstanding individual achievement at the International Six Day Race in Neunkirchen in 1979 . Already class winner in 1975, Schubert was the driver with the best points of the entire 388-strong starting field.

After the Six Days in 1984 , he ended his career at the age of 35.
