Trivia

With the Ndola MCC, a club team from Zambia took part in the event for the first time. The three drivers were HJ Fulcher (175 cm³), FH Row (250 cm³) and BG Taylor (250 cm³). However, all three did not reach the goal.

Remarkable from a German point of view: Peter Uhlig on MZ ETS 350 was nominated for the national team of the GDR in the trophy competition on the part of the General German Motorsport Association (ADMV) . However, Uhlig died in a traffic accident just under three weeks before the six-day journey began. As a replacement, Klaus Teuchert (with the same MZ) was appointed from the B team intended for the silver vase competition. In turn, the single driver Dieter Salevsky , who wanted to take part on a Simson GS 100 , took his place . Salevsky had to switch to the unfamiliar MZ ETS 350 and, despite this handicap, ended the trip by winning a gold medal in the class up to 350 cm³.
