Josef Wolfgruber

Josef Wolfgruber (born December 6, 1949 in Lauter ) is a former German enduro athlete .

As a motorcycle off-road athlete, he won the international six-day race with the FRG national team in 1975 and 1976 , was European champion six times in a row and won the German championship just as often. Wolfgruber was also successful in trial sports , winning three German championship titles.

Athletic career

Wolfgruber was born in Lauter, a district of Surberg in Upper Bavaria . He began his motorsport career in 1966 with trials. At the age of 18, he became German champion for the first time just two years later. He won this title in 1969 and 1972.

In 1969 Wolfgruber was also drawn to motorcycle off-road racing. In 1971 he won the German championship in the class up to 50 cm³, at the same time he became European champion for the first time on a 75 cm³ machine that year. Within the continental championship he then remained successful for five years in a row in the class up to 100 cm³. Nationally, too, it was unbeatable in this displacement up to and including 1976. The highlights of his career were his victories in 1975 and 1976 with the German trophy team at the Six Days.

Josef Wolfgruber ended his career with the Six Days in 1976 in Zeltweg , Austria . Wolfgruber fought for all of his successes on Zündapp .
