history

Lauter is one of the places mentioned in the Breves Notitiae as early as 790. In the 8th century the Counts Adalbert, Reimbert and Norbert donated goods in Lauter to the Salzburg church. However, it cannot be ruled out that the place is even older, especially since the Roman road Salzburg – Augsburg, now known as Via Julia , passed here. However, the Roman road has not yet been archaeologically proven.

As a toll station, Lauter was an important place from 959 to 1245, which only lost its importance when the road in the Surtal was built in the 19th century . With the 2nd Erhartingen Treaty of 1275, the toll station on the so-called Middle Salt Road was relocated to Traunstein. At the same time, however, Lauter became a border town. In this contract, the Bavarian Duke recognized the western border of the Salzburg Archbishop's possessions. Lauter belongs to the Rupertiwinkel , with which Bavaria came into being in 1810. There has always been a blacksmith, a Wagner, a Kramer and a landlord.

On February 17, 1968, the name of the parish Kapell was officially changed to Lauter . It was dissolved on January 1, 1970. Their area was incorporated into the communities of Neukirchen am Teisenberg and Surberg .
