Breves Notitiae

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Breves Notitiae , together with the Notitia Arnonis, are registers of goods of the Archdiocese of Salzburg from around 800.

Arno , Bishop of Salzburg since 785, listed the widely scattered foundations and properties that the church had received from the Agilolfingers around the year 790 in a document that is now known as the Notitia Arnonis or Indiculus Arnonis , one of the first real estate cadastres of the world. Charlemagne confirmed ownership of the church in 790 and prompted Pope Leo III to elevate it to archbishop and metropolitan of the Salzburg church province . in the year 798. Arno had the Notitia Arnonis expanded to include the Breves Notitiae ('short notes') around 798/800 .
